In the absence of club chairman Tim Knight the honour of hosting the annual chairman’s match fell to vice-chairman Richard Fisher who was unable to maintain the winning run in this annual match.

Batting first Aldborough, through Troy Allan (77) and Tim Nicholson (50 ret), put on a 136-run partnership after Catchpole had taken two early wickets.

Allan, in imperious form, was well supported by wicket keeper Nicholson. The highlights of his innings were two pulled boundaries off the bowling of Nathan Perry-Warnes of EAPL side Horsford. After Nicholson retired for a deserved half-century Allan was dismissed by a fantastic catch from James Sizeland.

With seven overs to go Kevin Bacon and Paul Reeve came together and put on 50 runs in 24 balls with Bacon scoring an excellent 35. The team score continued with Reeve hitting a series of boundaries to finish on 29 and the team on 240-6.

If it was the experienced heads that dominated the batting it was surely the stage for the younger players in the Aldborough team who shone brightly in the field.

The opening partnership of Botwright (Bradfield) and the hugely talented Perry-Warnes (Horsford) reached 100 from 17 overs when medium pace bowler Dave Bodymore removed the former, caught behind by Nicholls.

Bacon, Reeve and Allan supported the young bowlers well but it was Bodymore again who removed Perry-Warnes and finished with 7-2-25-2 and effectively put the brakes on the onslaught.

Tuthill returned after some earlier punishment and bowled well to pick up two wickets of which one was the champagne moment.

Gareth Daniels smashed a widish delivery at breakneck speed through the covers only to see the athletic Toby Armiger cling onto a diving wonder catch by his shoulder.

The game was still in the balance but another youngster Tom Seaman bowled exceptionally well to put pressure on Fisher’s men.

Fielding brilliantly Tuthill, Armiger and Bodymore helped maintain the momentum for the Aldborough team. However, with still a chance to win, the Chairman’s team were undone by the bowling of Ben Howett.

In two overs and aided by some excellent catches in the deep he picked up three wickets and bowled Aldborough to victory.

He was duly awarded man of the match.
