Flying Start Continues!
Hello Cricket Fans,
Another stonking weekend for The Green’s with both teams winning again, we remain unbeaten in the league this year! Also this week another century performance from an Aldborough player - read on for all the weekend’s action…Norfolk League Division One
Aldborough CC 227 for 8 (26 points) beat Ketteringham Hall 188 for 10 (8 points) by 39 runs.
Aldborough continued there solid start to the season with a comfortable victory over Ketteringham Hall.
Batting first Aldborough started steadily and moved comfortably to 46 for 1 before a mini collapse saw the Greens four wickets down. Perry Warnes (23) and Bacon steadied the ship with the former looking in good touch and positive mood before he was undone by a low delivery with the score on 83 for 4 at halfway.
Matt Saunders joined Kevin Bacon and the pair batted intelligently and began to rebuild a platform. Saunders playing his natural game and without imposed shackles punished loose deliveries and raced to 44 in an initial partnership of seventy. Bacon, not be undone, then stepped up his game and launched a series of boundaries to coast past his half century. Saunders then reached the same milestone with one of his six 6’s and the partnership reached 100. The pair continued unselfishly and when Bacon (70) and Saunders (66) were dismissed the team score was past 200 and that left Skinner and Board to produce good cameos for the team to close on 227 for 8.
The score was a good one on the pitch with some variable bounce and fast bowler Board took first honours removing Sprong second ball. Perry Warnes bowled tightly and the run rate began to move upwards from an early stage. It was apparent that Ketteringham Hall’s chance of victory clearly laid in the hands of Smith who dominated the strike and scoring from the early stages. Reeve’s spin and Dingle’s accuracy held the home side back although wickets were still in hand with the score at 120 for 3 after 31 overs. A double bowling change brought two wickets and Aldborough began to sense victory.
A good cameo from Howes(22) and the impressive Smith continuing gave a glimmer back to the home side. But the fielding began to improve from the visitors with Plumb pulling off a good catch and Reeve turning a certain six into a single with some clever work on the boundary. Smith deservedly reached his century and gave Hall a chance with 50 runs required off nearly 5.
A double change saw experience shine through. Board had Howes caught by the impressive Allan behind the stumps and Reeve in the deep picked out a big strike by Smith to have the home side reeling. It was Reeve who removed Bush and Board then wrapped up the game, finishing with 4 for 40 with the home team capitulating losing five wickets for 10 runs to give Aldborough a deserved victory.

Aldborough A (278/4) beat Lowestoft B (60/10) by 218 runs
Aldbrough A’s impressive start to the season continued on Saturday with an emphatic defeat of Lowestoft on The Green. This victory leaves them sitting pretty at the top of Division 5.
On a good looking wicket skipper Cannon won the toss and decided to bat. Openers Bundock (25) and Mack quickly set about the Lowestoft attack with some strong hitting and solid defence to take the team to 53/0 off the first twelve overs. Bundock fell to a decent catch and this brought Mack and Cannon together. These two batsmen showed no mercy to a faltering attack, running well between the wickets and punishing anything loose with some powerful striking of the ball. The 100 partnership came up in the 29th over and showed no sign of abating. The pair batted on to notch up a memorable 210 run partnership which was finally ended when Cannon was caught at mid-on for 88 off 82 balls. Mack continued and after racking up a career first century he was eventually dismissed for a fluid, powerful and highly impressive 130 off 143 balls. Aldborough’s innings closed on a massive 278 for 4.
In reply Lowestoft struggled to gain any momentum with the excellent Ash and Holroyd bowling tight lines. Macavoy was well caught by Ray Smith off Holroyd who followed it up by having Reynolds caught by Mack in the gulley. The four Aldborough bowlers took their cue and ripped through the Lowestoft resistance with spinner Knight ending with figures of 6-2-4-3 and swinger Ray Smith 5-1-9-3. Just as Swinbourne was about to come on to bowl his medium pacers, Cannon ran out the final batsman with a direct hit from deep square-leg leaving The Seasiders 60 all out.

Aldborough CC 248 for 9 (Swinbourne 43, Reeve 74, Cannon 68) lost to Marlingford CC 250 for 5 by 5 wickets
Batting first Aldborough started well with Swinbourne and Allan moving the score on quickly before Allan was needlessly run out. A mini collapse saw the score at 64 for 4. Reeve joined the impressive Swinbourne and the pair added 57 runs in quick time before the latter was out Leg before for 43. Cannon in fine form this year joined Reeve and continued the good scoring rate with the pair adding 84 in 11 overs. Reeve moved past fifty and ominously moved through into the seventies before he was given out leg before on 74.
Cannon moved the rate along and passed his fifty with a series of boudaries and looked set to go on before being dismissed by a low delivery. The innings then faltered and closed on a good 248 for 9.
In reply Holyoak started well but the hard hitting Chris Whiting had other ideas about the big target. He set aboout the bowling attack and punished a series of poor deliveries, took advantage of some slack fielding and scored runs through some of the big gaps in the field. The Partnership of 148 was hugley dominated by the big batsman and he deservedly reached his century.
Cook turned to Reeve who in a lively spell dismissed Whiting and then had three catches dropped, he removed Wright but was unable to prevent the steam train of momentum. Allan pulled a wicket back but the task was too stiff and the home side won the match with overs to spare.
