The Green’s Defeat Reepham and Salle!

Aldborough CC v Reepham and Salle CC (Friendly - League games abandoned due to rain)

The Green, Aldborough

After a lot of rain over the weekend the pitch was wet and on winning the toss the Reepham and Salle skipper asked Aldborough to bat. After Flannigan was forced to retire early due to the six and out rule Fisher and Cannon batted out the fist ten overs or so with the score at 35. Cannon then accelerated quickly and moved to fifty within 18 overs. Fisher held up the other end with some huge lunging forward defensives while Cannon batted on and the score went to 108 for 0 after 20 overs. Cannon then hit a straight six and was forced to retire for sixty. This bought Reeve to the wicket and he, along with Fisher, kept the scoreboard ticking as Reepham and Salle’s combination of Choudberg and T Saunders bowled good lines on a tricky wicket. Fisher departed for 24 and Reeve (46 not out) batted well with the Aldborough lower order taking the score up to 176 for 4 after Aldborough’s 40 overs.

Aldborough came out fighting and the within the first over a terrific combination of fielding between Cooke and glove-man Hollyoake meant for the early departure of Reepham and Salle’s opening batsmen who was run out without facing a ball. Aldborough’s openers Seaman and White bowled well but they could not find another breakthrough and runs began to come easily with M Saunders batting particularly well on a drying wicket. Cooke quickly turned to his premier bowling partnership of Reeve and Flannigan and these two effectively decimated the Reepham and Salle batting line up with Flannigan taking 4-15 off 8 and Reeve 2-16 off his allocation. When Cannon entered the fray it was as good as over and his bowling further strangled Reepham and Salle with figures of 1-6 off 4. Aldborough continued to field very well with Fisher taking an extraordinary catch and the pressure became too much. As the tail ender’s entered the fray needing ten an over it was all done and the 1st team captain, batting at 11, was left high and dry with Reepham and Salle falling well short of the runs required. This fixture continues to be a winner with the game being played hard but with excellent spirit shown between the teams. With Reepham and Salle fielding many of their younger players and Aldborough putting out a mixture of youth and experience it made for an excellent contest between these two clubs. On this occasion Aldborough outplayed their opposition but Reepham and Salle will come back next season with renewed vigour after this heavy defeat.
