Aldborough off to a winning start!

Aldborough travelled to old friends Happisburgh for the first match of the seaon last weekend and won a friendly match by 82 runs. Mark Cook led a strong Aldborough team and after winning the toss elected to bat.The first honours went to the home side when Fisher was dismissed early which brought Reeve and Flannagan together. The young opener played positively and although gave a few chances moved nicely on to 17 before being bowled by the very good Dan Kelly. Sturgess came and went and new player to the club Troy Allan joined Paul Reeve. Both batted carefully on a green wicket and at the halfway drinks interval the score was on 80 for 3. Reeve then accelerated from 43 to 89 with some leg side blows and Allan fired an impressive 40 which included a six of gigantic proportions. The left hander then in full flow moved nicely to a century with a succession of drives. Allan was undone attacking and was bowled soon after. Cannon and Reeve then upped the tempo until a mix up saw the wicket keeper ran out when looking set for a nice cameo. Reeve then full of confidence raced the score along with the help of Perry Warnes rotating strike and eventually passed his 150 with another boundary and finished not out on 153 and the visitors on 258 for 7. In reply chasing that total was always going to be difficult but as always Happisburgh were positive and started brightly. However, Perry Warnes and the impressive Tom Seaman with the help of a fabulous run out by Skinner pegged the home side back. Young Seaman with the support of some tidy glove work from Cannon showed that he will be a handful this year. Tom Westwood also made an impression after a nervy start and new man Troy Allan bowled with real pace. Wickets fell at intervals but there was always good resistance from the home side with Ivan Andrews and Ricard Voisey playing well. A superb Cameo from Dennis brightened the game as it began to peter out. He struck a number of sixes in an entertaining and well deserved 50. Cook and then Reeve took wickets at the end as the game drew to the expected conclusion and a first victory of the season for Aldborough. Aldborough Black Boys man of the match Paul Reeve.
